Taking a leap

Taking a leap

Taking a leap and changing direction in life can be scary - especially when stepping outside of one’s comfort zone and jumping into something completely new.

Last year, I felt myself coming to a crossroads. I knew it was time to either stay where I was or pursue the dream that had been lingering in the back of my mind for a long time.   But before we jump ahead, I want to take you back - back to the moment Brandon and I fell in love with home design.  We were newly married and settling into our new life in an apartment we had purchased a year earlier.  We were riding the happiness high and decided (while in a newlywed love struck haze) that it would be a good idea to remodel our tiny galley kitchen. This kitchen was ugly, much like the rest of our mix-matched home.  We really had no clue at the time what our overall vision for the space was.  This was a time before Pinterest and Instagram, so we were on our own and left to flip through Ikea catalogues and home living magazines for inspiration.

We decided to do everything ourselves - from laying the floor, to painting the ceiling, to installing the back splash.  Being able to see the space transform from dark and dreary to light and bright was an awesome experience.  When we finally finished, we looked at each other and thought, hey - this doesn't suck!  It was at that moment we realized we love this stuff.

Fast-forward to 2016 and a last minute getaway to Palm Springs, California.  It was the off-season so the trip was cheap, no one was in town (it was over 120 degrees), and we had the luxury of staying at the beautiful Avalon Hotel.  Design inspiration was everywhere.  We felt rejuvenated and full of life as we took photos of everything and explored areas of the city we hadn't before.  I remember feeling relaxed, excited, and alive for the first time in a really long time.  It was on our last night over a lovely dinner and several glasses of wine with Brandon that I brought up the idea of making a major change.   I outlined my vision and why I needed to leave my high level corporate job to start up Love Sims Home with him. Brandon, being the level-headed one in the relationship, asked for a full work plan and power point presentation when we returned home. Of course, I agreed.

This last year has truly been a dream, and I feel so grateful that we were able to make a positive change.  We hope that our story inspires all of you to follow your dreams and find your personal style.

Thank you for following along with us. Until next time!
