Main Street Apartment Remodel - Part 1: Living Room and Kitchen

It was an absolute pleasure working with this family. They have two adorable puppies and both have busy careers so we wanted to help create a classic and inviting space for them to retreat to at the end of a long day. Their home is located in one of Main Streets incredible neighborhoods and the views they have overlook downtown Vancouver. They love their location but it was time for a change.

BEFORE

The original paint was a neutral taupe and when paired with the dark stain on the floor and brown cabinets it was a colour pallet that didn’t work for our clients current taste.

So, we changed up the paint colour and lightened every wall in the kitchen, living room, bathrooms and hallways. This instantly created a clean and crisp pallet and provided a cohesive flow from the kitchen through to their living room.

Lets talk kitchen! We kept the footprint of the kitchen the same but we made some big changes because we knew we wanted to create a feature wall that would become the focal point of the space. Originally, our clients had a microwave hood fan combo above their stove. We knew this had to go, so we replaced it with a stunning black hood range that opened up the entire back wall and created more room for light to flow. With our clients opting for beautiful black cabinetry we wanted to tie that in through the hood range, wall scones and dark grout. The pine shelves that took the place of the original upper cabinets brought back warmth and texture into the kitchen. We didn’t want to block the new views so instead of adding island pendants we opted for wall sconces which cast a perfect glow on the beautiful open shelving.

Painting out the ceiling, repairing the crown molding and updating all of the pot lightning also made the kitchen feel huge and inviting.

The counter tops feel like they go on forever. We removed the old bar ledge that wrapped along the island to create more space for entertaining and food prep . The counter tops are a soft grey and white quartz which work perfectly with the black cabinetry and the subway tile back splash.

You can never go wrong with a classic subway tile. We wanted to add some contrast and opted for charcoal grey grout. We wrapped the back splash all the way around the back and side walls of this kitchen and it has truly become it’s own art piece. Functionality is always a must! So we created a beautiful prep/open pantry around the corner next to the fridge. We love this little hidden space. The amount of counter top space is incredible now and the lower cabinet drawers house everything from canned goods, spices, large pots and pans and baking trays.

We tied everything together with stunning gold door pulls and a new black faucet and under mount sink. Stay tuned, we remolded both bathrooms in this home as well and we can’t wait to share them with you.
